Unwanted border on element with drop shadow

Trying to export an image with an element that has a drop shadow but it keeps exporting with a border around it through the export for screens function in jpeg format. Using artboards and I have about 50 assets. Have tried exporting to png but photoshop crashes each time.

Can you share more about a screenshot of your work space and your export window?

I'd found that the image was a smart object with a solid colour layer inside with a mask. I deleted the layer and mask and it removed the stroke but this means we can't use solid colour layers anymore for masking, something common for us as we deal with product images a lot 😞
