I have always used the pen tool as a qucik selection tool, just click a point (no little pen point box would appear) click another point and the line would look like a selection, I would continue till I had my shape around what I was trying to select. Then I hit delete and whatever I selected would then be deleted. Well, I can't do that anymore. I have tried reseting the tool, trying the other pen tools, I know I can go to the "paths window" and select the "selection" icon at the bottom but that still doesnt fix what happened. I normally use beta and tried to do this in the regular Ps, still no luck, I have scoured the interent and havent had ANY luck finding exactly what I was looking for. I think I hit control and P at the same time when I was working with it by accident and now I cant undo it. Please any help would be appreciated! Im trying to find a video of what it used to do to give you a better idea of what Im looking for, Ill post it once I find it. Thank you all!

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/
p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Posting a video is necessary because this explanation is not clear to me. You cannot delete a part of the image as described; the path must be converted to a selection first, as it does not happen automatically.

Sounds like you have the Pen tool set to Shape in the Options bar.

Something else, that does not fit what you describe, but can be a gotcha all the same, is hitting P when the pen tool is already selected, and finding you have the Content Aware Tracing tool selected. I try to remove shortcuts for seldom used tools. For instance, I know for certain sure, that hitting B gives me the plain vanilla brush. If I want the other options, I have to use the mouse. For some reason I have not got round to removing the shortcut from the CATT, so I sometimes get irritated when the Pen tool acts up.
BTW If you have not seen the CATT, you have to enable it in Preferences > Tech Previews.
