ACR

I just did a reinstall of my Creative Cloud apps including Photoshop. When I opened Photoshop for the first time however ACR was missing. I thought it would install with Photoshop but not so. How do I go about getting ACR?

In the CC desktop app, in the "All Apps: section, scroll down near the bottom, in the "Apps to Try" area..

Thanks for this. The cc desktop app says ACR is already installed and if I look in Photoshop's Filter menu it is there and will open the photo from Photoshop. However ACR will not open if I open a picture or multiple pictures in Bridge. They will always open in Photoshop.

Non raw files (JPG, TIF, PSD) will always open directly in Photoshop without going 'through' ACR. Unless-

There is a setting in Camera Raw Preferences > File Handling where you can force rendered files to open with ACR.

The ACR 'FILTER' within Photoshop looks the same as the ACR interface but it is not ACR in reality. It is working with the rendered file that is currently open as a Photoshop document (Not a raw image file.).

I changed the jpg and tiff handling as above in ACR but they still don't open in ACR and worse the Open in ACR option in Bridge is now gone.

@sjhoyes

You can go to Edit > Preferences in Bridge and change the file associations for the extensions.

For testing purposes, does it work to right-click or Ctrl+R to open the files in ACR without opening Photoshop?

Does it work if you select the picture(s) in Bridge, and then choose File > Open in Camera Raw? Because if the Open in Camera Raw command is there, then Camera Raw should be installed and working. Is the Open in Camera Raw command dimmed and unavailable, or completely missing, from the File menu in Bridge?

Open in Camera RAW is dimmed.

I think I know why Open in Camera RAW is dimmed; the files that won't open in ACR are layered files.

Yes, nice catch. Only single layered TIF files will go through ACR with the option set in Photoshop-

So 'Layered TIFFs' are not supported in ACR, but once opened in Photoshop you have the ACR FILTER.
