ADJUSTMENT LAYERS ARE NO LONGER IMMEDIATELY USABLE WHEN OPENING A FILE. Photoshop 24.6.0 release / MacOS They used to be immediately able to be used 1-2 previous versions ago, now several steps must be taken clicking around the screen before you can use the adjusmtent panels. Currently, when a file is opened and you go to adjusments to start working, the icons will show faded and if you click on any of them, no panel will open. They also do not open if you click on the image. You must instead go over and click on the Move tool (perhaps other tools) and then you can go back to the adjusment layer panel, where they will then be activated and available to use. Please address this issue. Thank you.

Just an FYI 24.6 is Beta.

From a thread I just read a few moments ago, there should be an update released later this week. Until then, you might want to use the latest non-beta version to be able to keep working.

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far?
Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

I'm having the same issue, sometimes I need to reestart ps 2024 5 times a day, sometimes it happens in the middle of a work in progress and i need to save, reestart and open again. I can't make it work clicking around like you, it has to be closed down and opened again. I reeinstaled photoshop and it didnt solve the bug. I can see the issue for you started in June 2023, so even before photoshop 2024.

Perhaps try a thorough reset of Photoshop preferences?

(read this entire post before acting please)

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

Here’s some info on how to do that:

Open Photoshop.

New preferences files will be created in their original location.

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Before you reset your preferences

in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references.

Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder

Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions,

you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy

If that doesn't fix the issue:

Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop.

Still hanging?

Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop.

Do you still have problems?

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.

It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first.

(See above about preserving preferences though! It’s worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)

Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.

Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.

I see in your system info that you have dual GPUs. That tends to cause conflicts and this is a common problem with laptops.

Disable the Intel UHD as per instructions in section 6 & 7 here:

Dual GPUs is fine for simple applications that just send data one way downstream. But Photoshop uses the GPU for actual data processing. You can't send data to one GPU and get it back from the other.

Unfurtunately disabling the GPU didnt work. 1 hour after the action and I'm greyed out again and my liquify isn't happy.

So I had the same problem and it turns out the you just have to change the file bit size. Like I transfered a file from a laptop that had photoshop 19 and to a desktop photoshop 24. The file was in 32bit from photoshop 19 and I changed it to 8bits and now its working fine! All the adjustment layers are not grayed out now and totally usable!

ADJUSTMENT LAYERS ARE NO LONGER IMMEDIATELY USABLE WHEN OPENING A FILE. Photoshop 24.6.0 release /
