Artifacts in Photoshop Images

Community Beginner ,

Greetings,

Photoshop is introducing random artifacts into my artwork when I flatten layers or save/export a file. Expected result was an unadulterated image, but as you can see from the clearest image, discolored areas appear throughout.

  1. I started by creating an image in Illustrator. I then imported each layer into Photoshop and added gradations, effects,, etc.
  2. Because the file grew to over 2GB, I saved it as a .PSB, and closed it.
  3. When I reopened it it was severely garbled. I closed, and reopened it, and it was less garbled. I repeated the proceedure, and got even fewer artiifacts. I was unable to reduce the artifacts further using this method.
  4. Moving forward, the program would introduce discolored squares randomly on the image.

Details:

- System: Macbook Air (M2), OS: Sonoma 14.2.1, 16GB with ~500GB free SDD space

- Most current versions of Illustrator and Photoshop (I tried re-installing PSD also)

- Files were saved locally, not on the cloud

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Geoff

I may have found a solution. For anyone else who experiences this issue, this may be related to the graphics card in my Mac. To solve the problem, I went to Preferences/Performance/Graphics Processor Settings/Advanced Settings, then unchecked “GPU compositing”. So far, the issue has not reoccured. Anecdotally, some functions now seem to perform more slowly, so I hope that Adobe comes up with a fix.Screenshot 2024-01-21 at 10.00.40 PM.png

My first option is to go to Preferences/Technology Preview and check "Disable Native Canvas" first. Relaunch PS. If that doesnt resolve I would then go to Perfromances and turn of multithreaded composting next (restart). Then go to GPU settings last.

Turn back on GPU Compositing and try this first. It may help with speed.

Thanks, I'll try that. I did notice decreased performance with my solution.
