Asking about retouch skin

I have some question about many many tutorial on youtube about retouch me. I did it, but few things cant understand why have to do that . As i understood 2 step must done, high pass filter and Gaussian blur and blend mode vivid light or surface blur blend mode mode

My question is : Which blur is better. When doing gaussian blur, i notice that on the edge of brush , when i brush on the rear of face, it make face look little brighter and less clarity. If doing surface blur the image is fine. And the gaussian blur trick kind like 10 year old and new one only 3-4 year old.

In some video they make desaturated on duplicate layer, some video they dont. When i dont desaturated on duplicate layer, the image lost some detail, a lot. Why desaturated make image more detail when what they do is only remove color. I mean even if have color or not, it stil got that texture.

Hi, it all depends on what kind of picture you have and the overall scene location all tools you know are different ways to help you...regards
