Hey, @jimmythejinx. Welcome to the Photoshop community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.
Does this happen with specific documents? What is the general size for PSB files you work with, and where are the source files stored? Have you tried moving a few documents to the internal drive and opening them from the internal drive?
Working through a network, or external drive is unpredictable & is not recommended. Head here to learn more: https://adobe.ly/3A2G2zK
The event of file damage is rare. You can check the steps here to troubleshoot file recovery: https://adobe.ly/3YLSkGO

Hey Sameer
thanks for the reply
My Psb files can be anything from 2 - 15 GB - it doesnt seems to be with super large files -
Today the file that didn't recover was only 1.7 GB
To be clear - I'm not working through an external drive - the PSB is located on my hard drive
I only only the External SSD as a scratch disk ( for extra P'shop memory processing - or whatever it does most of us Professional Retouchers do this )
The files stay on my local Drive and is where its saved
I never had this problem before I upgraded P'shop to 26.1.0 - it seems very dangerous - especially as my commercial files are often days worth of work .
any advice greaqtly appreciated
thanks

Let's be clear - is Photoshop crashing?
There is no "autosave" in Photoshop. What it has is crash recovery, not the same thing. The recovery file is deleted in a normal shutdown, only if the normal shutdown sequence is cut short/interrupted is the recovery file retained. Then it opens automatically on next Photoshop launch.
The real problem, of course, is the crashing. That's usually GPU-related.
