An hour into my project, Photoshop crashed as I was closing out completed files. When reopening PS, no option for autorecover appeared, nor is there an Autorecover folder in the typical location. I checked my preferences and Auto Recovery is selected. I searched online for any changes to how Autorecovery works in PS 2026 with no luck. Thoughts?

@DevinDahlgren Did you get an actual crash report window when you crashed? And did you do an initial save at least once during the creation of the file. If you didnt do any saves initially - the auto save did not activate as the file is considered temporary until a document is saved for the first time.

I did get the crash report and filled it out. My file came from Lightroom Classic. I've had PS crash in the past and always had a recovery file provided. I can't recall if I saved the files in the past when coming from LR, but I'm thinking I didn't.

For autorecovery to initiate, the file has to be saved to disk at least once. Files that you just open, work on and close again without saving, won't be recovered.
After a crash, recovered files should open automatically on next launch. There is no point in looking for the folder - if the files don't open automatically, there's nothing there. I haven't seen a crash in years, so I can't test - this is just what I know about how it works.
I suppose it's possible that the application crashes at the exact instance the recovery file is saved, and in that case it's probably gone.

Hey @DevinDahlgren
I tried to find a crash report using the email you used to register in this community, but didn't see anything. Can you share the email you used to submit the crash report with me via DM? This might give us a clue as to why Photoshop crashed.

Hey, @DevinDahlgren. We haven't found any crash reports associated with the account you provided. For now, as our experts have recommended, save your files at regular intervals.
To investigate this crash issue further, we'll need more info. Does Photoshop crash often, or only when you open from Lightroom Classic?
Press & hold the Shift key while launching Photoshop to skip loading plugins. Then, share the system information by following these steps: 1. Open Photoshop Help > System Info. 2. Copy & paste the information into a text document. 3. Upload and attach the document here.
If it does crash often, try using Photoshop (beta). Go to Creative Cloud > Apps section > Beta Apps tab.
Let me know how it goes. Thanks!
