Big Mistake? [256gb]

So I just bought the new M4 Mac Mini, went for the 256GB option as can't afford Apples extortionate prices to upgrade. Planning to run OS from internal HDD and all Apps from External HDD.

Installed Adobe (PS BR LRc) to external hdd, so far so good. Problem I have is when I open a raw file from Bridge into ACR, I am missing the "OPEN" button in the bottom right corner.

Yes I can right click the image in Bridge and say open with PS Beta or PS 23, that fires up ACR and I have an open button, but I can only do one image at a time. If I highlight 2 images then right click, open with - PS is now missing.

If I drag the apps from the ext hdd to the int hdd, everything works fine !

@Clainorrm

I've moved your post from Using the Community to the Photoshop forum.

How much free space is on your hard drive? What do you have set for scratch disk?

@Clainorrm why don't you just install the apps on the internal SSD.

I bought the 256GB version, now realising that was a mistake. And the whole creative cloud kind of fills it up.

Do you have a full CC subscription, or just Photoshop and Lightroom?

You would be better off install the apps to the local drive, and keeping your data on the external drive.  That Mac is going to have some super fast ports for connecting an external drive to, but I still wouldn't want to trust that to running the OS or apps.

Having these applications installed on a non-system drive is asking for problems. A large part of it will go to the user account on the system drive anyway.

A standard configuration of operating system and a normal range of applications shouldn't take up much more than 90 - 130 GB. Put everything else on external storage.

Hi, I have now completely un installed PS. Then installed the Creative cloud desktop to the internal drive, changed the default download to the ext hdd and downloading and installing the apps to the external, will keep my eye on it as it installs.

Think I've figured it out. Completely uninstalled adobe. Then re installed Creative cloud desktop app to my internal HDD. Went into preferences and told it to install apps to the external drive. So far this is working. Trouble I had was when I opened a file from Bridge into ACR I had no "open" button to progress to PS. Loading it this way seems to be working...

My home production machine is an M1 mini with 16G/256G and it works fine. I usually only have LrC and PS running. My catalog is around 350k images. Just a data point.
