Brush tool very jerky movement

HI all - I'm using ps 23.5.0 on mac 12.4 on a mac pro 2019 with 192g memory.

My main user account started acting strangely - random crashes, restarts, etc, so I created a test account to try to debug. The crashes have stopped, but whenever I use a large brush (anything larger than 1200 px) it won't move when I move the mouse. This happens with any brush based tool - clone stamp, pencil, etc. Other tools - move tool cursor etc - move fine. File sizes are quite large (12,000 pixels wide with many layers) but this behavior never happened in my original user account.

I've tried deleting PS prefs, but it did not help.

Any thoughts?

So I created a THIRD user account, and this one does not seem to have the problem. Odd.
