Bugs affecting radial blur

New Here ,
May 20, 2025 May 20, 2025

I take a shape, convert to a smart object and use the radial blur filter. I cannot duplicate the layer and have it look the same, I cannot copy it and have it look the same. The outcome of the radial blur is not the same, even if it is the exact same shape.

Hi @lexi_2473! Welcome to the community!

It looks like what you're seeing might be due to how the Radial Blur filter works. The blur effect is generated based on the object’s position on the canvas at the time of applying the filter. For example, if you place the same object in different spots, you’ll notice the radial blur is different for each.

When you copy and paste a smart object, Photoshop recalculates the blur based on the new position. If you want to keep the exact same blur effect, try using Ctrl + J to duplicate the object instead. It will paste the duplicate in the same spot as the original, and since it stays in the same spot, the blur should remain consistent.

Hope that clears things up a bit! Let me know if you have any questions.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

You might want to consider a Smart-Object-in-Smart-Object-approach if the Filter’s effect should be identical across multiple instances.
