Hi

For a car, which has smooth hard edges, as opposed to other surfaces which have soft edges such as fur and hair,  the best way to cut it out is to create a path with the pen tool. Carefully work around the car to create a path. Then you can use that path to create a vector mask.

If you have difficulty finding an old thread that you started, go to your profile page and click on Content.  It is obviously easier to understand your question when people can see the previous content you are referencing to.

As Dave has said back up the thread, the Pen tool is far and away the best tool for cutting out smooth edged objects like cars.  This series of tutorials by forum poster Mike Hoffman, is as good a set of how to use the Pen tool as I have come across

This is the first of seven, and as it happens, there are two more since I last checked the link, so I'll be looking at those as well. 

If this looks a bit daunting, I can only tell you that it is totally worth the effort.

If you change the Mode to Lab Color and place a copy of the L channel in Layers, a Curve adjustment will take you at least this far. Some local Dodge and Burn will improve the result. Silhouetting would follow with either a Pen or other Selection tool. Then return to RGB

This is a start with the Quick Selection tool.
