Can I reduce ppi without affecting image size

Is it possible to decrease ppi to say 72 for web but not change the image size?

My use case is I need i maximum long edge of 2048 pixels and 72 ppi.

Also going to need to do this on multiple images.

For an open doc, you can use Image > Image Size, ensuring that "resample image" is OFF and then change the resolution to 72 PPI. Then use (Legacy) Save As/Save a Copy to retain the resolution metadata. The size will remain 2048px.

 

If you use Export As/Quick Export, then the resolution metadata is removed, some apps may show 72ppi, others 96ppi as a default for missing resolution data. The size will remain 2048px.

Save As/Save a Copy?

 

Export As? Quick Export?

 

Export > Save for Web?

 

What file formats?

 

Resolution is just a metadata entry, but it depends on the file format and method of output...
