So I'm not really sure how to word this, I am new to Photoshop.

To start, the application is definitely not frozen as I can still click from menu drop down tabs and change tools ect.

It is when I try use any tools on the 'canvas' nothing happens? I can't can not draw/crop/move ect . Does this make sense? It's like the whole canvas part of the screen is locked?

Couple things to try:

If the canvas is dead as soon as you open a file, try this:

Go to preferences > Technology Previews... and check "Disable Native Canvas" - then restart Photoshop. Does the problem still occur?

If the canvas freezes when you pan or zoom after opening a file, try this:

Go to Preferences > Tools... and uncheck "Enable Flick Panning"

I'll try to disable the Flick Panning, it seems to fit the issue I'm struggling to solve
