Macbook Pro (M1, 2021)

MacOS Monterey

Version 12.1

Photoshop 25.3.1/ 24.7.2

When I added a video file to a timeline in Photoshop, I got the following error. "Could not complete the New Video Layer from File command because the footage is not a recognized format."

I also downloaded other older versions to try but none of them can open the video file, I've been searching through the forums and web for solutions for hours, but still can't find a solution.

I would really appreciate help to fix this issue. Thanks ahead of time!

Hey, @Ting29340671nxl4. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need specific info to help you figure this out.

Does this happen with a specific video, or do all videos behave similarly? Could you share a sample video here or via direct message from my profile?

As primary steps, follow these steps & check how it goes:
1 - Download sample videos from the internet & check if they open as expected.

2 - Ensure Photoshop has the required permissions on the macOS: https://adobe.ly/3uQcToX

3 - Update & upgrade Photoshop & macOS on your machine.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Version 23.4 is required for native M1 video support. Can you open the videos with QuickTime Player or VLC? You may need to transcode if the video codec/format isn't supported.
