Can't use spell checker

I was trying to spell check my text then I noticed that the language is set to Romanian. I changed the language to English USA in the Character tab. Now, when i go to Spell Checker it reverts back to Romanian! and I get the error " Could not conplete your request due to a program error".

How do I fix this?

The first thing to check is this:

Language is a Character setting, meaning that the text must be selected first as it would be if you changed the typesize or typeface. Can you confirm you did that?

When and how did you change the language? If you do it with no text selected, the settings will apply to any new texts. If you want to change the language for certain existing text in your project, you have to select the text by the Type tool or at least the textbox by the Selection tool
