@jt4pix

This is a known bug caused by Sonoma. Adobe and Apple will need to work together to fix it.

One work-aroud is to turn on the Application Frame.

Here is a second that some say works for them:

  • Turn on the Application Frame
  • Float the toolbar
  • Turn off the Application Frame

This will only work until you decide to Dock the toolbar. Then do it again.

Seeing as how it always turns out to be a "turn on application frame" solution, Maybe Adobe should stop accusing Apple and address their [cursing removed] application frames... !

@jt4pix and @Derek Holiman

Can you see if today's update from Apple to macOS Sonoma 14.1.1 fixes this issue as reported?

Hello everyone, I have a problem with Photoshop. When I use the application frame, I can use all the tools, but when I remove the application frame, I can no longer select the tools. When I click on them, they disappear, and I access the desktop, as if they were not there or were transparent. The same issue happens with some other windows, like the adjustment window. I tried resetting Photoshop, but it didn't change anything. I have Photoshop 25.1 and Mac OS Sonoma 14.1. I also tried Photoshop Beta, but the problem persists.

Only one answer is marked "correct" in that thread. I wonder why the second way (to turn on the Application Frame) isn't still marked. It was before.

Thank you and Sorry, i didn't find the topic. This happens even with the application frame when i'm working with the adjustments windows in the secon monitor whrn the windos are linked together. When every window is just close each others but not linked it doesent work. The same with the tool bar, if the tool bar is linked to the frame is not working, if it's free it works. So at the moment is a good turnaround but is still not a solution 🙂

It's absolutely not a solution — it's a workaround until the bug is fixed. It was caused by Apple and is only affecting those using Sonoma. Earlier versions of macOS and Windows are not affected. Both Adobe and Apple will work together to fix this.

Yes. Success.

MacOS 14.1.1 appears to remedy it.

No more application frame required. (don't understand Adobe's obsession with it... feels claustrophobic)

No it has not been solved or corrected - I'm running Mac OS Sonoma v 14.7.2 and using Photoshop 2025 v 26.2.0 and it's still as quirky as ever. Without the Application Frame being "docked" to upper portion of the Photoshop work space the problem persists: unable to switch tools.  With a app frame "docked" - Am able to switch tools.  I do not call this a "fix" - this is merely a "work-a-round" that needs to be fixed by Adobe.
