Cannot use Step and repeat with a group

Hey,

I created a group inside Photoshop with layers inside it (text & shape).

I want to use the step and repeat combination to duplicate groups with the distance between the duplicated ones.

The problem is I can't duplicate the group with Alt + drag after using the cntrl + alt + T (special transformation). I still have the move tool icon when I try to drag it with alt and not two little arrows of duplication.

So if I combine shift+cntrl+alt+T to see if (maybe) it worked, the layer (here as a group) changes its place only.

Here's what I tried

I LOVE Step & Repeat, but it can be finicky with non raster layers.  Even Smart Objects usually don't play nicely.  I can't say I have tried it with groups, but I would not expect it to work.

OK, I'd better warn you that I might fall asleep here after listening to your chillin' music.

I wouldn't use Step & Repeat to do that.  My workflow would be to make as many copies of the layer as I needed.

Move one to the position of the last object, and use Move >  Distribute Centres or Distribute Spacing

Note: You have to click on the three dots for the drop down menu to access those options.
