Trying to change the color of a jacket in cs5. Have color I need in another image. Used the eyedrop tool to bring the sample color into color picker background. Selected the image but when I use Alt/Delete it colors the whole image. Can not use adjustment layers hue/saturation because can't get a color close to what I need. Am I doing this wrong?

Can you upload your jacket image so we can see what you're dealing with?

Several ways you can do this. One way is to use L*A*B* color. Find the the color of you sample using using L*A*B*, in this case I used L=72, A=18, & B = 37. Mask out the areas you don't want colored and adjust a curves adjustment layer to match the values of your sample.

Nice job Chuck. We are a year on from the Extract Shading Peek. There were several genuinely useful Sneaks demonstrated last year, and it would be nice to see some of them realized inside Photoshop.

Still doing something wrong. I've done this in the past, way past and I had no trouble. Can't remember how I did it.

Hi
Have you set the "curves" layer to Screen mode ?

Robert from you last screenshot it looks like you are trying to paint with the sample from the colour checker.
What Chuck showed you was :
a. Change the Image Mode to Lab
b. Get the eye dropper and shift click on your sample and on a similar shade on the jacket.
This will give you two targets in the info panel that you can adjust to match
c. Add a curves adjustment layer above the jacket - with a mask so it only affect the jacket (not the background or sample)
d. Adjust the curves , starting with lightness and then the other channels to match the jacket to the sample
e Switch back to RGB mode
No doubt when Chuck comes back on he will advise you further

Dave pretty much summed up the steps for changing color in L*A*B*, but here's a tutorial, which I haven't watched, but it's by Jesus Ramirez, who always has great tutorial.

There is also a technique by Jim Divitale called the .com method. a B&W layer is created and them three solid color layers are added above that with your color. Those layers blend modes are set to: color, overlay, and multiply (in this case screen would be switched for multiply). It takes a lot to tweak all the layers, but it give great results. I don't know if there is anything on the web about using this method though.
