Chunks or rectangles missing from print

I've just bought a new computer (Dell XPS). Fresh installs of Photoshop and all the drivers etc. When printing from Photoshop to my Epson SC P600, I get regular pieces or chunks missing from the print. I'm using a Hanhnemuhle paper with the ICC installed and selected and the printer is connected wirelessly. This isn't replicated on screen on the displayed image. See result. Any ideas how to solve? Thanks.

A bit to add - trying a reprint, the same parts are missing. I stopped the print before it finished to avoid wasting ink, but the first 2 bits missing are identical.

I've been on to Epson, chat below.  In summary, I have the right up-to-date driver installed, and the image prints ok when printed as a JPG from Windows Photos, so its likely a problem with the interface between Photoshop, the printer and the ICC profile. Or the file itself, but I cannot find any issue with it or the layers in it.

Hello, Adrian!

I'm sorry to hear about this issue
20/06/2023 01:21pm UTC - Epson Support:
Could you tell me if you are using genuine Epson inks with the printer?
20/06/2023 01:23pm UTC - You:
Yes I am - genuine inks and experienced user. I have a new computer and
so fresh installs of the drivers and photoshop. I am connected wirelessly,
and am using Photoshop to print the image. I am missing rectangular
boxes in the images, placed fairly randomly. You can see my thread on the
adobe forum here, with a sample image:

if you print a nozzle check, is the pattern complete?
20/06/2023 01:28pm UTC - Epson Support:
Do other photos print the same?
20/06/2023 01:28pm UTC - You:
Yes it is. I cleaned the nozzles yesterday and all is well. The blocks that are
missing are distinct and regualer is size, so it looks like some data is
missing in what the printer is trying to print.

20/06/2023 01:33pm UTC - Epson Support:
is there a chance this file or the other file you have issues with has some
transparency layers on top of the image, that can create this printed result?
20/06/2023 01:35pm UTC - You:
I don't think so. It was sent to a commecrial printer and printed ok, excelpt
for a mistake that I made in the artwork. I corrected that an was printing a
test version at home, and I didn't add any transparent layers. I'll check, but
I am certain that isn't the case.
20/06/2023 01:37pm UTC - Epson Support:
have you tried to use Epson Print Layout until now?
20/06/2023 01:38pm UTC - You:
I don't usually use that, as I want photoshop to control the colours so that I
can use an ICC profile for the paper.
20/06/2023 01:39pm UTC - Epson Support:
We need to test the printer with other software to determine if this might
be a Photoshop issue or a file issue
20/06/2023 01:40pm UTC - You:
Ok, I don't have it installed, can I use something else to check it?
20/06/2023 01:40pm UTC - Epson Support:
Try to print using Windows photos, for example, to see if the same file
prints differently
20/06/2023 01:41pm UTC - You:
Ok, I'll do that now.
20/06/2023 01:45pm UTC - Epson Support:
How did it go?
20/06/2023 01:45pm UTC - You:
Printing now, had to move the file and re-save as a JPG as Photos wouldn;t
see the PSD.
20/06/2023 01:46pm UTC - You:
That's printed ok, so I think it must be a Photoshop, or ICC issue.
20/06/2023 01:46pm UTC - Epson Support:
Check the file in Photoshop, as indeed, this looks more like a file issue
20/06/2023 01:47pm UTC - You:
Ok, thanks. I'll add this to the Adobe chat in the hope someone can help.
Thank you.
20/06/2023 01:48pm UTC - Epson Support:
Is there something else I might be able to assist with at this time?
20/06/2023 01:48pm UTC - You:
No thank you. Have a good day.

Have just re-started everything and the print works ok, so it is definitely a printer/photoshop/ICC interface issue. Would really like to know where this comes from though, as have wasted a fair bit of ink and paper, and there was no indication it would happen.

@Jetstream Rider  This is really almost 100% certain to be a printer or printer software issue. An ICC profile instructs an application to modify pixel values - I've NEVER seen an ICC profile that could create blank areas in print.

If I saw prints with blocks missing I'd try rotating the image - are the same blocks missing?

I hope this helps

I'm sorry to hear about the printing issue you're facing with your new computer and Epson printer, To troubleshoot the problem, you could try the following steps:

  1. Ensure that you have the latest printer driver installed for your Epson SC P600.
  2. Verify that the ICC profile you're using for the Hanhnemuhle paper is correct and compatible with your printer.
