Clicking on shape changes its size

I created a shape object (rectangle) using the rectangle tool. I copied it using option + drag. Oddly when I click on the coped shape to move it, it reverts to the shape of the original object. Can't find a preference or tool control that caused this. Any ideas?

Here is a quick screen cap movie of the issue. It happens when I drag some rectangles but not others. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

thank you for attaching a video as required. Have you tried to reset your Adobe Photoshop preferences?

To make sure if its a display issue or whether the Layer’s properties are indeed changed could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Properties, Options Bar, …) visible?

Just stabs in the dark, but:

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

Does turning on »Deactivate Native Canvas« (Photoshop > Preferences > Technology Previews) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

Attached a new screen cap video with tool bars and properties visible. The Graphic Processor was turned off and the system restarted. I also deactivated the native canvas and restarted as well. Could this issue be related to the age of my iMac? It is a 2103 i7 with 24GB of RAM. I wouldn't think it would be an issue but I cannot think of anything else.

Sorry, but the screen grabs do not display for me; does the Properties Panel indicate an actual change in the dimensions of the Shape Layer?

Yes. When I click on a shape the dimensions change. It seems as if a copied object reverts to the size of the original it was copied from.

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far?

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/basic-trouble-shooting-steps.html

I think I have seen another thread on this issue, not sure if it was resolved, though.

Did all the usual things and even had an Abobe tech support specialist take control of my screen and change some settings. He was also stumped.

Hi @kd360

Can you try this:

Move the shape, then zoom in and out ( Cmd + followed by Cmd - ) It might possibly be a screen refresh problem.

Does this only happen with this file or all files? Can you share a PSD that reproduces this problem?

Hi Jeffrey,

I've attached a PSD where this happens. If click on the rectangle below the HOME link in the primary nav area and move it, it changes its shape. It seems to revert to the shape size of the rectangle that it was copied from.
