Clipping Layers being applied automatically

When I apply a new adjustment layer in Ps it is automatically applied as a clipping layer. This did not previously happen and I cannot find how to stop it happening. For every adjustment that doesn't require a clipping layer I have to manually remove this link. Can anyone advise how to revert this to original setting

Go to Window>Adjustments and from within the flyout menu uncheck Clip to Layer
