Cmd+V won't paste from clipboard into the hex field of the Color Picker (Text Color) panel Ps 27.1

A person at reddit complained that the keyboard shortcut of Cmd+V wouldn't paste from clipboard into the hex field of the Color Picker (Text Color) panel in Ps 27.1.

So I tried. I put a color into the foreground swatch of the toolbar, clicked the swatch so the Color Picker (Foreground Color) panel opened.

The hex field was highlighted. I used Cmd+C to copy the hex code to clipboard.

I then made a type layer active and clicked the color field in the options bar.

The Color Picker (Text Color) panel opened with the hex field highlighted.

Cmd+V wouldn't paste from clipboard into that highlighted hex field.

Edit > Paste worked. But not the keyboard shortcut.

I know that the other redditor was a Mac user, but which macOS wasn't mentioned.

I'm running macOS 15.7.2 and Ps 27.1.0.

Yep, it appears to be fixed in standard release v27.2.0.

I thought I should add some information.

Cmd+V pasted from clipboard without problem into the hex field of Color Picker (Solid Color).

Cmd+V pasted from clipboard without problem into the hex field of Color Picker (Stop Color) when I added a color stop to a gradient map's gradient.

Cmd+V pasted from clipboard without problem into the hex field of Color Picker (Foreground Color).

Thus far, the problem only seems to happen when trying to use the keyboard shortcut when pasting into Color Picker (Text Color).

Hey, @johng44721896. Thanks for bringing this up. It is working as expected on Windows. I'll test this further and share it with the team for review.

Thanks!
Sameer K.

I can report I'm also having this issue with the same restrictions as OP. Problem appeared after update to 27.1.

Hi @furiousfotog and @johng44721896, thanks for reaching out!
Just like Sameer, I haven’t been able to reproduce this on Windows. Could you share a screen recording so we can take a closer look? Your System Info would also be really helpful. You can find it in Photoshop under Help > System Info. Just copy the info into a text file and attach it here, or share it via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or any file-sharing platform.
Thanks a lot!
Alek

Ps_sys_info_251204.txt

@Aleke, here is the system info text file that you suggested be linked. Let me know if you have or don't have access. I went back to google drive and attempted to change access from restricted to allowing anyone with link.

short .mov clip of failed process

And here is a short clip. I hopefully allowed access to anyone with the link.

You will see at the start of the clip that I click the foreground swatch in the toolbar calling up Color Picker (Foreground Color).

I used Cmd+C to copy the highlighted hex code.

You'll see when the Color Picker (Text Color) panel opens that nothing happens for quite some time in the hex field. That was me repeatedly pressing Cmd+V.

Then finally I go to the Edit menu and chose Paste. Then the new hex code gets pasted into the hex field of the Color Picker (Text Color) and the clip ends.

Thank you for looking into this.

And my computer is MBP M3 Pro 36Gb RAM, 1Tb storage, 500Gb free, macOS 15.7.2.

If there is need, this could be scripted until Adobe can provide a fix.

It's not a significant problem as we can always use Edit > Paste.

I would never have know the bug existed if I hadn't come across a post at Reddit that mentioned it.

As a photographer rather than a graphic artist or designer, I've never in over twenty years using Ps had call to paste a hex code from clipboard into the Color Picker (Text Color) hex field, let alone do it via keyboard shortcut.

But, since it turned out to be a real bug, I thought I'd better report it.

Hi @johng44721896 @furiousfotog

Sorry for the delayed response, and thank you for sharing the video—it was very helpful in understanding and attempting to reproduce the issue. I tried the same steps on my end but wasn’t able to replicate the behavior, similar to what Sameer and Alek observed.

I’d suggest updating your macOS to 15.7.3 if you haven’t already. If the issue persists after the update, please try resetting Photoshop preferences after creating a backup, using the steps outlined here: https://adobe.ly/4oYPhnU

Regards,

Srishti

Thanks. I don't consider this bug to be a problem. I'd never have known about it if I hadn't been trying to help someone at reddit. It seems to be a problem for those using Mac machines, and the work-around is very simple.

Hi @johng44721896

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I checked this on a Mac as well, but I wasn’t able to replicate the issue on my end. When you get a chance to install version 27.2, please check again and share your observations, especially if you notice any change in behavior.

Regards,

Srishti
