Color loss when exporting back to Lightroom

Up until last week, I had no problem processing my RAW photo files in Lightroom, then exporting to Photoshop for additional processing, then sending back to Lightroom.

Now when I send the file to Photoshop, it looks OK while I process.  Send it back to Lightroom and the colors are drab.

I make no changes to the color space or any of the other things that go on behind the scenes in Photoshop, just wondering if anybody has experienced this and has any clue how to correct.

My monitor is not the greatest, but I've never had any problems in the past

Bojan has the correct answer. This is the known bug where the color profile is not correctly embedded in the PSD file. Without a profile, Lightroom treats it as sRGB.

Yes, resetting PS preferences fixes it going forward, but you also need to go back and re-assign the correct profile to the affected files.

Hello and thank you for your comment.

I haven't figured out how to reset the color preferences in Photoshop yet. I've never had a need to do a deep dive into the inner workings of PS. I just go in, do what I need to do and go on my merry way.

Are you definitely embedding the ICC profile in Photosdhop?

I suggest using save as rather than "export" and be sure to check the option to embed profile

if so you may have done that, Perhaps try resetting Photoshop preferences?

(read this entire post before acting please)

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

Here’s some info on how to do that:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Manually removing preferences files is the most complete method for restoring Photoshop to its default state:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

The user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS.

To access files in the hidden user Library folder, see here for how to access hidden user library files.

Unexpected behavior may indicate damaged preferences. Restoring preferences to their default settings is a good idea when trying to troubleshoot unexpected behaviors in Photoshop. check out the video

And here’s an earlier forum discussion as an aid to understanding

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Here is general info about that:  https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#BackupPhotoshoppreferences

Before you reset your preferences, in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references.

Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder

Preferences file locations: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html\

I hope this helps

Hello, thanks for your response. Yes I do "save" rather than export. That would be the only way I know of that sends it back to Lightroom so I can do further processing (if needed). I am just at a loss as to why this just happened out of the blue. I had been processing in LR and PS exactly the same way for several years. Then suddenly ~ something changed. I still havent figured it out.
