Computer is very slow while running multiple Adobe products.

Hi folks,

I have been a designer for over 20 years, commercial print shops + small business. No stranger to Adobe products. With my latest computer build, I am unable to run more than one Adobe app. without the computer slowing to a crawl.  The computer works great for every other app I run multi-tasking.  I am used to having Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign running simultaneously without lag. This computer on paper is a beast compared to my old system, so I can't understand why this is happening. 

Let me know what you need to help identify the issue, this is the first time I have run into this problem.

Hi @elbmagw Go to Photoshop Help Menu/System Info and copy/paste details in a reply. Post only once as the system takes time to process the large amount of data.

First guess out of the gate is obv a lack of resources - either a slow CPU or underpowered GPU. The system info will help point out any issues.

We were looking at how Photoshop hangs on to memory a few days ago.  Even using Purge did not release memory, and I had to close Photoshop to get it under control.  Without knowing how you work we have to guess, but have a look at Task Manager > Performance tab. 

You can also use Resource Monitor to get an idea of where any bottlenecks might be

Can you tell us a bit more about your system hardware?  What are your Scratch disk arrangements?  You are going to have significant temp files using multiple apps, and how quickly they can be accessed is going to impact performance.

I have an i9-13900K, RTX4080 and 64Gb ram, and currently have Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Bridge, and Character Animator open, and everything feels snappy with no wait states.

I haven't messed with the scratch disks as I've never had to previously, however I have a 1 TB SSD OS drive that Adobe is running off with 792 GB free. I am running an Intel Core i5-10600K with 32 GB RAM. My previous computer which is still here runs the Adobe apps (Ps, Id and Ai) at the same time no problem with an i7 3770k older gen processor and 16 GB RAM.  That's kind of why I am at a loss here - should be quite an improvement I would think? 

I'll check the performance tab on TM tomorrow - pretty sure I have already done this and didn't notice anything hogging too much - but I will confirm.

So with Ps, Ai and iD open with a job open on each, only 14% CPU usage total on TS with 56% memory usage (13.8 GB available). Shutting down all Adobe products takes it down to 5% CPU , 41% memory (This is while running a bunch of Google Chrome tabs as well - in both instances.

Try running without the Chrome tabs open. There were posts on other forums a while back noting that multiple/excessive Chrome tabs caused severe lags in operations.

Closing Chrome completely did appear to help, but still more lag then there should be. The thing is that in either instance, there is still plenty of CPU resources available, and more than half RAM resources available.  This is odd isn't it?

This latest version of Photoshop is impossible to use. I realize that he is the one causing all the slowness on the computer. I installed the 2022 version to be able to work. Even when I open the files I created in the new version, Photoshop 2022 is also slow. I have been working with Adobe since 1996 and after Cretive Claudo started I realized that everything only makes the expensive version worse.
