Yes, you can open WebP images using 3rd party software of 3rd party plugins, but if Adobe actually wants to support it's subscribers we need to be able to open and save WebP imges directly in Photoshop ASAP.
WordPress is about to roll out its second biggest update of this year - v5.8 which includes Native support for WebP images.
As somebody who has used Photoshop for over 20 years, I am not impressed by all the novelty features, changing UI / moving buttons around for no good reason, while at the same time not keeping pace with widely adopted technology on the web.

Hi,
Sorry about the missing support for the WebP format in Photoshop. It would be helpful if you could add your vote to the feature request for native support of the format here: https://feedback.photoshop.com/conversations/photoshop/photoshop-please-provide-support-for-the-webp...

Absolutely agree. And by now all major browsers support WebP animations as well as Animated PNG files!!!
In the meantime alternatives add native support: the latest betas of PhotoLine even support WebP and APNG animation file import/export. WebP has been an option for years and years and years.
All the while, in 2021 Photoshop STILL does not natively support WebP files. If it wasn't so sad, I'd be laughing over how funny this actually is.
