Could not complete request because the disk is not available

I've been struggling to resolve this issue and have had no luck. I'm trying to open a file I opened yesterday and I keep getting this error "Could not complete request because the disk is not available". I can't find any information on this issue besides a post from 2014 that gives a vague direction that I'm not sure how to use. Can anyone please help me?

Is the file situated on a local volume? 

Have you tried copying it to another volume? 

 

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far?
Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:
