Creating a light shining on a "wall"

Hi, i've been trying to figure out how i could recreate the image you see in this post with a transparent background instead of black. I've tried gradients in selections but that just doesnt work quite right.

You could load the luminance as a Selection (by cmd-clicking the Composite Channel), create a Solid Color Layer and hide the original Layer.

Hey @c.pfaffenbichler thx for commenting. When i try this i'm missing alot of the luminance.

You can load one Channel (Red or …) instead of the Composite Channel. 

And you can edit the resulting Layer Mask with Curves for example to edit the visibility of the Layer.
