Cropping in ACR when opening as a smart object in Photoshop from Lightroom

When I open images from Lightroom in Photoshop as a smart object and then double-click the smart object to open the RAW file in ACR and use the crop tool, when I close ACR and get back to Photoshop, the image is cropped but the canvas size is not. Is there not a way to have the canvas size match the crop selected in the smart object?
