since about 2 weeks I sometimes get a disk-error on my Mac while saving a file with Photoshop on GoogleDrive-FileStream.
After 2 or 3 saving attempts it usually saves just fine. Saving on my hard drive works without any problems.
Any idea what the problem might be?

Hi Flunters,
Could you please let us know what exact error you're getting?
Also, when was the last time you were able to save files to Google file stream?
Please have a look at this article and let us know if it helps: Fix problems syncing to your computer - Computer - Google Drive Help

Hello Sahil,
I get this: “Could not save as ‘…’ because of a disc error”.
When I try again and again it usually saves after the second or third time. Also I don't get this error every time -- it seems to happen just randomly.
Thanks!
Steffen

Thank you for providing the information Steffen, as Photoshop is able to save files on the local drive, it seems that there might be a permissions issue that is causing the error to appear. It is not recommended to save files on network drives directly from Photoshop as it might corrupt the file or the file will not save in many cases, please have a look at this article to know more about this: Troubleshoot issues with networks, removable media in Photoshop

Hello Sahil,
I can't believe that it is not recommended to save a file directly on a service like GoogleDrive-FileStream. The whole point of using the service is to be able to work on it directly.
Also it worked fine before. So I guess either Photoshop or Google changed something that causes the error.
Thanks,
Steffen

I have the same problem as Steffen. I've been working on network drives (Dropbox, Google Drive) for quite a while now, and the problem seems to be new. Network drives are becoming ubiquitous, so this is something that really has to be addressed.

Same issue happens when using Illustrator. No other apps cause this issue, meaning the fault is not on Google Stream.
Please investigate the issue and find a fix, losing files would be detrimental.

Hey everyone,
Same problem, using Google Drive File Stream for business on MacOS. My File Stream deleting files from drive when I'm clicking cmd+S, and after I can't save this file with exact same error: "Could not save as "File_Name" because of a disk error". I have sent couple of feedbacks to Google, probably issue on their side, because i can easily save files to SSD drive.
If you will find solution please let me know, thanks!

I've had the same issue. I've come at it from the Google Drive side, but they aren't able to help. I haven't yet spoken to their customer support as I need admin rights and our admin is out today.

Hello,
Started have this same problem 2 days ago. Disk error while saving photoshop files to google drive share. I've been working directly on cloud drives for years (dropbox, google, meocloud, etc) with 0 issues.
Also google drive automatically thrashes my file and when i try to restore it the file is either corrupt or photoshop returns "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."

Here's a Customer Service follow up: (after an hour of chatting)
Finally I was told that hopefully it could be fixed in an update before the end of the year....
So unfortunately they don't really seem to care about fixing the issue, hopefully they do, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Throwing my weight behind this issue. I really wish Adobe could look into this, as it is the only application I use that has this problem with Google Drive Stream, and I know Google might never address the issue from their side. I've been seeing this issue for months now, and it disrupts our team's workflow. Not only will it not save updates, but the original file will be deleted too. It usually works after a few tries, but it's been getting progressively worse. I came to this forum now because I just got a disk error message after 10 consecutive attempts to save the file.

Same problem here. I hope Adobe will fix this problem because the risk of losing files now is quite big.

I am having this same issue with my Photoshop CS6, only I am not using anything Google related. I am trying to save right to my desktop and receiving this error. I have reset my settings, which didn't work. I am just trying to save as a PSD file, and it doesn't work at all. If I choose to save in a different location, it will let me, but if I choose to overwrite a file, I get the disk error message again.
I forgot to mention. Saving for web seems to work fine. It seems to be only trying to save the PSD file that is the problem for me...so far.

I have the same issue and it's infuriating because I save like every few seconds and this disk error pops up constantly. I found that it doesn't happen when I make that file or folder "available offline" which may not be ideal for some people, but is a temporary workaround.

Even when making all my files available offline, i'm still having the same issue.

Sorry you are right, I am still having the same issue too. I thought that had solved the issue.

I'm having the same problem using Google Drive File Stream. Photoshop hangs on 0% saving, and there's no way to abort and save as another filename or on another volume.
I did, however, find kind of a stupid/genius workaround so you don't lose all your work. Photoshop has an option called Export Layers to Files. This lets you save out each layer as its own PSD in another location, such as your desktop. Then, after force quitting Photoshop, you can reopen your old file (or create a new file with the same dimensions), and drag all of the layers back to the document. They will appear as Smart Objects, but you can then select them all choose Convert to Layers. Afterwards, your file should appear essentially the same as it was before you got the error.

That's a crazy workaround. It's 2020, covid is here and this function not working since 2018 is really beyond astounding. How do we supposed to work from multiple locations and why don't Google Or Adobe acknowledge their problem? Oh, because they are to big to fix things in a reasonable timeframe, everybody can wait.. years.

Adobe does not support network drives and definitely does not support using a cloud service. Save to your local hard drive and manually copy files over. You are going to lose data otherwise.

I've been doing this lately, the problem got to be too big of a pain to continue dealing with it. I noticed not only would I get the error but it created a host of temp files showing up in the various folders I was trying to save to. It seems really odd that Adobe hasn't dealt with it as it is a relatively recent problem and worked great before this started occurring.
