extracting a selection from a Dreamtime tearsheet

I'm working with the latest version of Photoshop on a Dell laptop. I have through the generous help of the community figured out how to extract using the color range option in the select menu the hazard symbols on individual signs. But then I purchased what amounts to a tear sheet of various signs from Dreamtime. I import into LR then open to edit in photoshop but cannot zoom in on the jpeg. How can I isolate an invidual sign so I can use the color range select process? Thanks

Use a lasso or quick mask to roughly select the characters.

Use ColorRange to select gray and black colors.

Ready.

Thanks. Sorry to be so plodding but after I lasso the individual sign (I can't seem to zoom in as you have) I want that selection to become a layer but it is not doing so. I even tried using edit then copy but nothing occurs in a layer. I get that if I had the sign in a layer I could use a mask, eliminate the rest of the sign (the outline) and the color range select. The dreamtime jpeg is open in PS as a background and I have unlocked it.

Perhaps someone from Community Experts will help you and explain what to do, especially those who speak English well. It looks like you don’t have any skills in Photoshop since you don’t know how to cut out a selected piece of a layer (Ctrl+J) or make a mask from the selection. At the moment I find it difficult to help you.
