Hi

When I try to batch process a large number of files. Tried 5000-60000 converting to png, PS crashes after a few thousand files and I have to start over. Any advice?

Thanks

Let me move this to the Photoshop forum for you, which is the appropriate forum for your question.

You will need to provide troubleshooters with additional information:

Make and model of computer

CPU chip

RAM

Video card and Video RAM

OS and version

Photoshop version

The Using the Community forum is for help in using the Adobe Support Community forums, not for help with specific programs. Product questions should be posted in the associated product community.

Dont process so many at once - you are probably exceeding your Scratch disk allowance.

I would break these into smaller batches so you dont lose your entire effort.

60,000 file in 60,000 output file out 120,000 files! How many hours do you think Photoshop will needed to process 120,000 files. If the batch process has any issues your machine is likely to run out of resources that photoshop will want to use.

@Pat5F8A

Photoshop wouldn't be my first choice of software for batch processing an "industrial" quantity of images.

What exact steps are you batch processing? Is it only conversion to PNG?

Are you running Windows or Mac?

Try to split files and batch into smaller chunks. 60.000 files is waay too much, even 5.000 is huge number for any app. You can use Bridge to move files into folders or to select and batch process selected files.

Why everything must be done in single step? Because we live in digital edge? At the moment, apps can not do anything and everything that we can imagine. If you are checking for possible bug in app then you have information, otherwise you have very high expectations.

For large batches, install ImageMagick and use that instead.

Agreed, that is one option I was going to mention depending on the actual image adjustments required, which is why I asked the OP what they needed to batch.

If on a Mac and it is just conversion to PNG, then one could just look into SIPS:

https://ss64.com/osx/sips.html

https://medium.com/shell-life/convert-images-for-web-using-the-sips-command-line-on-macosx-656c502a6...

https://infoheap.com/mac-sips-bulk-convert-jpeg-files-to-png/

Other cross platform options include:

https://imagemagick.org/index.php

http://www.graphicsmagick.org/
