Feathering in Select and Mask not working

I've used 'select and mask' for as long as I can remember, but it doesn't work now.  When I circle and area and click on 'select and mask' I get to see the selected area.  When I (for example) feather it using the slider, the image fades nicely at the edges, increasing as it should when I move the slider right.

But when I click on 'OK' I get back to the image with nothing feathered. This is how I have used it for decades without problems.  Can any one help or explain?

@Guitarmaker

I've branched your post from an older solved thread so it will be better seen.

@Guitarmaker  Check your ouptut settings in Select and Mask.

If set to Selection it will modify your selected circle only until you do something with that selection. Until then you will see no change - the marching ants will be in the same place (the 50% mark)even with the revised feathering
If set to, for example, 'New Layer with mask' it will show the effect on your image of a mask using that selection
