File Info not accessible

New Here ,

'Could not complete the File Info command because the Metadata library could not be loaded.' Mac OS 11.7.10 Big Sur. I did a search for this which just took me to a dead end. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Guy5FF3! I understand the frustration.

Could you share more details about the issue? What version of Photoshop are you using? Does this happen with every file or only specific ones?

As a first step, we can try resetting the preferences to restore Photoshop to its default state. This often solves miscellaneous issues. Just make sure to create a backup, as it will delete your workspaces, brushes, and other settings. Here's how to do that: Reset Photoshop Preferences.

Thank you so much!

Alek

Hi Alek,

Thanks for looking at this so promptly. I’ve tried to reset Photoshop preferences as described, but immediately hit a snag - there’s no library listed in my Users folder! Here’s a screenshot.

I’m using Photoshop 2024, 25.12.0 release. It’s a nearly 10-year-old iMac 27 inch with Mac OS 11.7.10 Big Sur. It worked perfectly well until recently, maybe when I updated Photoshop? Not sure. I know it’s not a recent OS, but I’m keen to avoid updating to the latest OS as that would affect some of my other software.

Thanks,

Guy

Big Sur is long since unsupported by Apple and is not secure to use online.

As for the Library folder, its hidden. Google how to navigate to it.

Thanks ExUSA. I've been using Macs for 30 years but still struggle with tech issues. I googled as you suggested and found a file named Adobe Photoshop 2024 Prefs.psp - Do you think this is the one I can or should chuck out?

If that doesn't work I guess I'll be forced to upgrade the OS. It'll make some old software unusable and cost me money (sigh). If I do so, I hope it will solve the metadata issue.

If you have a later 2015 iMac, its time to replace it, frankly. Those are considered vintage and the latest OS you can use is Monterey, which is also now unsupported. A new M4 will run circles around that computer.

Thanks ExUSA. It's time to upgrade I suppose, although I will lose the use of some other software. I'll keep using my old computers though - their speed is perfectly adequate for my needs.

Aleke, anything more? How to find my Photoshop preferences? They don't appear in my Users folder. Thanks.

(my mistake putting my address etc on previous message - didn't realize that would go online)
