Hi Running a Imac with Sequoia 15.2.
Processor - 3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7
Graphics - AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT 8 GB
16 GB general RAM.
Problem: When opening a new RAW or Jpg in PS RAW filter is not available. Looking under Setting/camera Raw/Performance I see GPU is turned off. Underneath dialogue box indiction that "Raw graphics acceleration is not supported by your system"
Graphic accelleration though is supported in Lightroom. (also very much up to date) This is just a PS glitch. It was working just fine and then it wasn't. I hit no switches
What I've done so far:
- Problem duplicated on second Imac
- Under PS settings/Performance (preferences) I have unclicked "use graphic processor" - restarted PS and found RAW filter still not on. Did not switch to regular RAM. Reclicked 'Use graphic processor' box
- Under PS/Settings/Performance 'Advanced' I uncliked 'Use Open CL', restarted PS to no avail. Still GPU was turned off.
- Under PS Settings/Preferences/Performance, increased available RAM from 70% tp 80%
- Uninstalled PS and Beta PS. Reinstalled PS 26.2
How come it worked than didn't work, seemingly arbitrarily?
How do I turn on my graphics card to use in Photoshop?
Will I need an external graphics card and if so which one?
1 Correct answer
Answer found. Problem solved. Tried rolling back camera raw. It half-worked. Installed camera raw 17.1 over PS 26.2. RAW filter is back.

It worked and then it didn't? Probably due to opening a file that taxed the GPU.

The GPU FAQ lists 9 characteristics that require GPU acceleration (like Camera Raw) and 8 features that won't work without a GPU (like flick panning, perspective warp).

"AVX or Advanced Vector Extensions are additions to the x86 instruction set architecture, which pertain to Intel and AMD CPU's that use x86 architecture." (serato.com; first definition I encountered in my search)
"Intel SSE, or Streaming SIMD Extensions, is a set of instructions designed to improve performance by allowing a single instruction to process multiple data points simultaneously, primarily for floating-point operations. Introduced in 1999 with the Pentium III, it has evolved through several versions, including SSE2, SSE3, and SSE4, each adding more capabilities and instructions. It worked and then it didn't. Nothing different with files I was opening.
Suffice it to say my GPU is compatible.
