When I create a PSD file in Photoshop 24.0.0 with gradient map effects in layers, i have a bug or error to open the same file in another Computer with older photoshop version.
When open appears a message "The file contains unknow datas..." Keep Layers or flatten.
If i choose Keep layers the Gradient Map not found. The layer is empty.
The bug happens in many files.

Adobe changed the Gradient and Gradient Map.
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/whats-new/2022.html
under Improved Gradient tool
As far the Gradient Map Adjustment Layer in photoshop 2023, you can instead convert your layer to a Smart Object, then apply Image>Adjustments>Gradient Map as a Smart Filter using the Classic setting and users with photoshop versions as far back a cc 2015 should be able to modify the Gradient Map. Earlier photoshop versions will open the Gradient Map layer as a separate flattened layer with the Gradient Map Adjust intact or as a non editable smart filter layer.
same psd opened in photoshop 3.0.5 creates a flattened layer with the adjustment intact

Thanks Jeff.
But that doesn't solve the problem.
I need to open the file with the layers on other computers.
In previous versions it worked normally.

If the photoshop version is cc 2015 or newer then using Image>Adjustments>Gradient Map as a Smart Filter
will give users the same gradient adjustments as a regular Gradient Map Layer. All users have to do is double click on the Smart Filter to bring up the Gradient Map adjustments dialog.
It's only in photoshop versions older than cc 2015 that users won't be able to adjust the Gradient Map.
What versions of photoshop are the other users using?
If Adobe is not willing to make the Gradient Map layers backwards compatible, then you'll have to find another solution like using an older version of photoshop to make your gradient map layers

It is not uncommon. Forwards compatibility of files is usually maintained between versions (there are exceptions) but backwards compatibility is never guaranteed, particularly if using new functionality.
Have you tried the Classic mode (under mode in the options bar)?

[Thread moved from Photoshop Bugs to Photoshop Discussions as it is not a bug]

I understand Dave. Thank You.
But using the gradient map effect layer is not a new feature.
I've seen more people complaining about this issue on forums.

'But using the gradient map effect layer is not a new feature.'
Gradients have changed in the current version and that includes those used within the gradient map ajustment layer. See the inclusion now of the gradient method - Perceptual , Linear or Classic
