Graphics card decision

Community Beginner ,
Feb 08, 2024 Feb 08, 2024

I am trying to decide what card to buy to replace my old graphics card as it does not support DirectX 12, which i need for Photoshop. NOT a GAMER so only really need it for casual .Photoshop editing. Thinking of this one MSI GeForce GTX 1650 D6 VENTUS XS OCV3 4GB or PowerColor Radeon RX 6600 8GB Fighter. Feedback appreciated.

@Bedders118 check the Photoshop Minimum Requirements and go with at least the Recommended value - no the min. The 1650 is already 5 years old so I would honestly avoid that series and start with the 3000 series for longer life.

Agreed. The Nvidia GTX series is obsolete now. You want an RTX, with "Tensor" cores optimized for the newer AI-based functions in Photoshop/ACR/Lightroom.

The current sweet spot is the RTX 3060 or the newer RTX 4060. Very reasonably priced, but perform brilliantly with Photoshop. You can go higher, but prices increase faster than any real benefit for Photoshop. They are more for 3D and such.

I have one machine with a 3060 and one with a 4060, and both have been rock solid.

Given my budget, I have seen an RTX 350 at a reasonable price. I only edit
photos as an armature so probably don’t need the higher end cards.
Thoughts?

Do you mean the RTX3050? If so, yes that should work fine.

RX 6600 is better choice, especially XT version. If you are on budget then 6600 or RTX 3050 which is already mentioned is good choice.

Between 3050 and 6600 go with 3050 because it is newer. I am still using RTX 2060 and it works fine but it will be discontinued or dropped from support with the next generation 5xxx. So it is wise to go with 30 series.
