I have a lot of files that were done in CS2 Illistrator and Photoshop 4, I want to open them on my imac running macos catalina 10.15.7, do i purchase the latest versions of Illistrator and photoshop and if so what do i need and what sort of cost and will the new versions open retrospectively

Your option is the Creative Cloud, a subscription service. Adobe long stopped selling permanent licenses.

It all depends on your budget and remember some of these plans require a year's commitment to get the best discounts.

 

If you can run Catalina, you can run the latest versions.

That said these apps should be able to open your old files.

LATEST

Photoshop and Illustrator files can be opened in newer versions. Files (psd, ai) are forward compatible, any newer version will open them but not and backward because obvious reasons, previous versions of app does not have any clue about new features added and saved in newer versions of apps.
