How can I edit a droplet for Photoshop 6?

How can I edit a droplet for Photoshop 6? The company hired somebody to set up the droplet years ago, and nobody remembers how it was set up. The computer that was used to save the files has crashed, and I need to change the path the droplet uses for saving the files. I tried to open the droplet with Image Ready, but it said it was not an image ready droplet and could not be opened. The computer running Photoshop is using Windows XP.

You may want to check out xbytor’s DropletDecompiler.jsx.

Though that works for Photoshop 6 I don’t know …

The above mentioned script will work, but not in photoshop 6.

(ps 6 didn't have the necessary scripting plugins and such)

Do you have access to a version of photoshop cs2 or newer?

Also if you have a hex editor you might be able to open the droplet and see what the steps are

and recreate an action and droplet.

Thank you for the replies. We do not have access to a newer version of Photoshop, but just ordered one. The computer we are running Photoshop on is about to die, so we are going to have to replace that computer also. Quite an expensive week!

Once we get set up with the new computer and install CS5, can we copy the droplet to that computer and edit it? Or at least view the steps so they can be recreated?

The hex editor idea won't work, but you should be able to use the script in cs5 that c.pfaffenbichler linked to decomplile the droplet to an action.

It seems that the script on the ps scripts page is to old to work in cs5.

This is a lnk to xtools 1.8 which has the latest version of the droplet decompiler:

Just unzip, find the Apps folder and look for the DropletDecompiler.jsx.

Then put your droplet on the desktop, Use File>Scripts>Browse in cs5 to navigate to the DropletDecompiler.jsx.

Here's an example using the Aged Photo.exe droplet from the ps 6 samples folder:

I don't know if the script will work on PS6 droplets. They occasionally change the file format which means I have to update the script when that happens. If you cannot decompile the droplet, send it to me and I'll see what I can do.

OK, got the new computer and installed the new copy of Photoshop CS5 today. I followed R_Kelly's instructions and used xbytor2's refreshed script and....was able to view the droplet! I was then able to recreate the droplet and have used it. Thank you for all the help!

We need help

We have this droplet and we tried with the java decompiler tool, but didn't work. For us is really important to have access to the actions because our pc took literally fire but the only copy of the native actions was there...

So now we have only the droplet, but we need to make some change for adapt the droplet to the new machines.

Please help us, we can pay for it!!!!!!

Your link is not working for me for whatever reason. Send me the droplet (xbytor@gmail.com) and let me know what OS/version and what rev of PS/CS the droplet that you built the droplet from. There are several different formats for droplets and the more info I have, the more likely I can help you out. Also, look into off-site backup; decompiling is the last best option for this kind of situation but one that I and others have obviously found useful.

when i run the script i can't choose my droplet... what’s wrong?

i’m using PS CC2014, OS 10.10.2

Email the droplet to me and I'll see if I can figure out what the problem is. Do realize, however, that there are some droplets that the script can't decompile. Hopefully, this is not the case here.
