How do I duplicate a shape and keep it on the same layer?

I have a circle that I am trying to duplicate over and over again to make a raspberry-looking thing. I have tried to use the movement tool and hold alt and drag, but that just makes another layer. Is there a way I could do it on the same layer?

Select the object by Ctrl clicking the layer, and then Ctrl Alt drag.  That will keep it all on the same layer.

Trevor is correct, except since you tagged macOS, use Command instead of Control and Option instead of Alt.
