How might I get this texture?

Hans Bauer, an exceptional photographer who posts on Ello.com made these three photos. I like the texture and reduced contrast, and I would like to do something similar in my own next project. Any thoughts about what combination of techniques might do it? Thanks.

I expect a Gradient Map Adjustment Layer and the structure as a scan or photograph with an appropriate Blend Mode and possibly Layer Mask might suffice.

As for the spots etc. near the edges one can try to create some artificially (as in my screenshot) but it might provide better results to use  scans/photographs of actual »distressed« or old sheets of paper or other materials.

  1. Add a Gradient map with these colors: #1a100a (location 0%), #414345(location 50%) and #736d60(location 100%)
  2. Add the Grunge Paper Texture with Overlay blend mode. You can desaturate the texture a little bit.
  3. Add the Grunge Border PNG with Darken blend mode.
