How to control format of images sent from Lightroom (Classic) to Photoshop?

I righ-click an image in LR. I choose edit a copy in Photoshop with Lightroom adjusments. (But it doesn't matter if I choose without - same problem)

I do the edits in PS and click save/close. The new image in LR is now a tiff.

Previously it was a PSD. I am guessing this is as a result of reinstalling LR and it losing settings, though I guess it could just be a change in a new version.

How can I make it so the image edited in PS is automatically saved as a PSD file?

Thank you

You should only need to setup the desired format in the LR preferences, then just use "Save" in Photoshop, which should respect this format. Do not use "Save As..."
