I am new to Photoshop and have a simple question.  I have a photo I want to use for a background image.  I do not want to use the bottom part of the image.  I want to move the upper part to the bottom and then recolor the upper part of the image which needs to be filled in with the sky color from the moved image.  Any help would be appreciated.

Can you post the image, so we can get a better idea of how to do this?

Any chance you could post this image to the forum so we can see what you are talking about?

It sounds like:

  • You want to use the upper part of the image and discard the lower part
  • Then move the former upper part to the bottom of the image
  • Fill in the now blank upper part with the blue of the sky

Is that correct?

If so, you can move the image down and let the unwanted part disappear beyond the boundaries of the image, then crop it later. (Or make a Smart Object. Or mask it.) If it's a background layer, unlock it first by clicking the lock icon in the Layers panel.

Use the Move tool to move the image down.

Create a new layer for the sky and move it to the back of the layers panel.

  • If you want a solid color, use the Eyedropper tool, then fill the sky area.
  • You can also try Content aware fill.
  • You can also paint with the Mixer brush to blend colors for the sky.

As Chuck said, an image will help. As will clarification of what you are trying to do.
