How to retain images copied to clipboard—this should be simple

I have selected and copied an image to the clipboard (Command-C). When I open another file and paste it (Command-V), the image pastes in. But if I open another file and do Command-V again, it won't paste—I have to return to the original file and select and copy it all over again.

In no other program does the clipboard material not stay in memory after it is pasted. Any suggestions?

Hi, sorry you are seeing this issue.

Yes, whatever is copied into the clipboard should stay in the clipboards temp memory until you copy something else.  A couple things to try:

  • Restart your computer and see if this persists
  • Check to see if this issue is the smae in ALL your Mac OS apps, ie text edit, email, etc.

What version of Photoshop and OS are you using?  You can go to Help/System Info and copy/paste here for further investigation if the steps above do not work.

Thank you,

I cannot reproduce the issue.

Could you have omitted a relevant step from your description (like switching to another application or Finder)?

Hi,

My appologies for not understanding your issue.  I have been able to open a file in Ps, select and copy a layer, then open another file and paste that layer, open another file and paste the layer again.  Is this what you are trying to do?

You say you copied an "image" into the clipboard... do you mean a layer or something else? Could you share some screenshots of your process so we can be clear what is happening when?

Thank you,

you probably have Export Clipboard disabled in the prefs and you're opening from the desktop instead of from Ps.
