I cannot see the dodge or burn brush size on the image open in photoshop.

Hi Guys.

This is the first time I have posted here. I am so frustrated that since updating Photoshop, I cannot see the dodge or burn brush size on an image open in Photoshop. With the older versions you could change the size with the bracket buttons and at the same time see the size of the brush on the image. 

Is this the way it is now or is there a legacy setting I can change?

I'm not seeing any issues on my end... I am running a mid 2015 MacBook Pro. I have found that having the capslock key toggled will make my cursor change so I cannot see the brush size. Other than that, the standards restart solution is probably your best bet.
