I keep getting "Couldn't complete request due to program error" every time I open my project.

For context:

Current photoshop version 26. I have a large photoshop project, I am making a pitch deck for a director. I saved the first 7 pages I made in the psd as a project file. Now every time I open the project file it tells me "Couldn't complete request due to program error."

I tried opening a previous backup. That file opens but it gives me "Some text layers might need to be updated before they can be used for vector based output. Do you want to update these layers now?" I click update. It just opens the psd. But there are certain text layers with warning sign on them. When I click them to edit, I get "Couldn't complete request due to program error".

I did the untick "Disable GPU Accelaration" . It doesnt help. I have photoshop 2021 installed, and the file doesn't open there, the software just crashes.

Help please. This is two days work that will be completely spoiled and set me back a lot if not resolved.

Hi, I did all the usual troubleshooting tips. I have latest update of photoshop.
In the end ChatGPT suggested to open the corrupted psd in other software like Photopeia or Affinity. I googled Photopeia and it opened the software in browser. I dragged my psd in the software and voila! it opened. From there I saved it as a new save psd. Now it works in photoshop!

I deleted the problematic text layers. Thinking I will just rewrite them. But after I delete the text layers, the software just crashes. Please help!

Hey @Parth340140698ppv

Welcome to the Photoshop Community! I’m here to help you get this issue sorted out. It looks like you're using an older version of Photoshop—please try updating to the latest version and see if that resolves the problem.

If the issue persists after updating, I recommend going through the troubleshooting steps listed here:

As for the crash, if you still encounter a crash after updating to the most current version, please PM me your email and share your system info.

Let me know if the update helps.

Did Photopea retain the layers?

LATEST

Literally retained every single layer, effects, adjustment layers, smart objects, groups, everything. Nothing is different. It even resolved all the font issues I was facing when opening a previous back up. The PSD I saved from Photopea works flawlessly in Photoshop and I am continuining to work on it right now.

Legit way of checking if your PSD has been corrupted or not. I am gonna definitely suggest this solution to other people facing similar or nearly similar problems.
