I know no option to determine the file that contains an opened SO from the SO itself.

It seems an opened embedded SO is just a temporary file and it is not this image that »radios« its changing to the containing image but that the containing image »notices« when that other file is saved anew.

If you placed a file into the PSD to create the PSB, then it may be in the metadata... However, if you selected one or more layers and converted them to a SO, then no.

I'll try to dig up some old topics or further info...

EDIT: Some of the data that I was thinking of –

xmpMM:DocumentID
xmpMM:OriginalDocumentID
xmpMM:InstanceID

However, not every file has it. This is also related to photoshop:DocumentAncestors metadata which tracks the source doc when placed or pasted into another document.

What do you want to do with that information anyway?

What role would it play in your workflow?
