I just updated Photoshop to 24.3.0 and went to start editing a picture of the Sun. The image would first appear black, and then start flashing black and white nonstop. The image would only appear in the camera raw filter window, which would also allow me to edit it in, but anything else would be black. Also, it might help to know that the image is a TIF file. I already check that my graphics card is compatible with it, so this might just be a bug.
I'm not a tech guy, so this is all the info I can provide

I had a very similar issue (I'm running Windows) to work on some new JPEG photos ā all opened up as solid black images (without any flashing). Same for a PNG file I'd created couple of days ago ā in all cases, the images were visible in the layers panel. I was running what was the latest version (24.3.x), but still checked to see if there was another update ā as there was (24.4.1), but having installed it (and checked it really was installed), still the all black images.
Thanks to the advice below, (Preferences > Technology previews > Enabling deactive native canvas) all now well again.
