Images look cloudy on Preview after converting color profile.

I am a newbie at printing and have been really struggling with settings and adjustments to send my files to a professional printer. I am editing my images on PS, then using a color profile from my printer to soft proof images on PS. After converting the file to the color profile and opening it in Mac Preview, some of the times the image looks completely hazy, it loses all contrast (as if when you check the "simulate paper color" box in PS). On my dropshippers online gallery (safari browser) it looks good, exactly as it does on PS (without the paper simulation selected). I tried selecting "soft view with profile" and selecting the color profile I used on Preview and nothing changes.  Any idea what's going on? Thanks!

If Mac Preview displays CMYK images incorrectly that is not exactly a Photoshop issue.

Please set the Status Bar to »Document Profile« and post meaningful screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible of the image in Photoshop and Preview.
