Hallo zusammen

Hello @blck77
I have probably ported the shortcuts from an older version. For me it's ‘ä’ and ‘#’ on my German keyboard.
And yes, while ‘#’ works to zoom in, ‘ö’ does not work in [Select and mask…] mode.
What does work though: Alt+Ctrl+right click ( + drag left/right) to resize the brush and Alt+Ctrl+right click ( + drag up/down) to adjust the brush hardness.

Hi @blck77,
Thanks for reaching out. It seems like the default keyboard shortcuts for brush size adjustment should still work in the “Select and Mask” workspace. Would you mind testing by reverting to the default shortcuts for brush size and seeing if they work there?
If they don’t, could you try temporarily removing your Wacom tablet and test if the issue persists? If it’s still not working, it might be useful to test in Safe Mode (Mac/ Windows) to rule out any conflicting settings or software.
Please let us know how it goes, and we’ll be happy to assist further if needed!

I work with German keyboard layout, therefore the default Keyboard Shortcuts (brackets) won't do because the brackets require the shift-key on a German Keyboard.
I do not work with a Wacom tablet.
I can try safe mode on my private PC but not on my company PC. I have this issue on two completely different systems with different Adobe accounts (one private, one company), so I think it is very unlikely that the source is the OS or another software.

Hi @blck77,
Thank you for sharing more details about the issue. Since this is happening on two separate systems, it’s helpful to rule out potential conflicts.
Could you please:
1. Test Photoshop in Safe Mode on your private machine with no other applications running. This will help us see if any third-party software or drivers are causing the issue.
2. Enable the On-Screen Keyboard to check if the “Ä” and “Ö” keys are being recognized correctly when pressed.
Let us know what you observe after these tests, and we’ll assist further based on the findings!
Best regards,

thanks for the details.
The solution is simple: on a German keyboard the umlauts do not work for brush size in select&mask. Using alternative keys solved the issue.

Thanks for the hint with the #
That solves the issue for me. The shortcuts ö, ä, ü, ß do not work with the brush size in select&mask.
I ended up with ´ (that's the accent) and #
It makes me wonder whether umlauts work within the picture and not within select&mask. I'd dare say that's a kind of bug.

Hello again, here comes an update.
I installed Photoshop on a brand-new Windows 11 laptop this weekend, and in this case, the accent ` was not accepted. I have to use the minus - instead. So,- and # work in the standard window and the Mask&Select window.
Umlauts still won't work in the Mask&Select window.
